Intra-species variation of ovipositor morphology and oviposition preference in Drosophila suzukii (Diptera: Drosophilidae)

چکیده
Abstract Females of Drosophila suzukii have an enlarged and sclerotized ovipositor (oviscapt, hypogynium), which is a key evolutionary trait that enabled D. to lay eggs through the skin ripening fruits. We investigated intra-species variation in morphology oviposition preference for substrate hardness among 27 strains recently established from local populations Japan. A significant difference between was observed length as well number bristles on it. Further analysis using representative revealed size independent body variation, suggesting proportion other parts different strains. In two-choice assay 2% 7% agar substrates, four preferred soft one strain hard substrates. Competitive cross-modal surface curvature overrode all tested

Cold Hardiness of Winter-Acclimated Drosophila suzukii (Diptera: Drosophilidae) Adults.
Drosophila suzukii Matsumura, often called spotted wing drosophila, is an exotic vinegar fly that is native to Southeast Asia and was first detected in the continental United States in 2008. Previous modeling studies have suggested that D. suzukii might not survive in portions of the northern United States or southern Canada due to the effects of cold. As a result, we measured two aspects of in...
متن کاملSucrose Improves Insecticide Activity Against Drosophila suzukii (Diptera: Drosophilidae).
The addition of sucrose to insecticides targeting spotted wing drosophila, Drosophila suzukii (Matsumura), enhanced lethality in laboratory, semifield, and field tests. In the laboratory, 0.1% sucrose added to a spray solution enhanced spotted wing drosophila feeding. Flies died 120 min earlier when exposed to spinosad residues at label rates enhanced with sucrose. Added sucrose reduced the LC5...

Drosophila suzukii Matsumura (Diptera: Drosophilidae), commonly referred to as the spotted wing drosophila, is an exotic species that has proven a troublesome pest of fruit production in the United States. The fly targets small fruit and thus represents a concern for the U.S. cranberry industry. Two studies were conducted to assess whether cranberries may serve as hosts for D. suzukii. In the f...
متن کاملGlobal potential distribution of Drosophila suzukii (Diptera, Drosophilidae)
Drosophila suzukii (Matsumura) is a species native to Western Asia that is able to pierce intact fruit during egg laying, causing it to be considered a fruit crop pest in many countries. Drosophila suzukii have a rapid expansion worldwide; occurrences were recorded in North America and Europe in 2008, and South America in 2013. Due to this rapid expansion, we modeled the potential distribution ...
